What Fur Affinity/The Furry Community Means to Me

Posted by CatCouch - August 7th, 2024

I wrote this journal for Fur Affinity, but it applies here too!

I've been on Fur Affinity for 10 years now.

FA has had a profound impact on me and the artist I have become.

Hearing of Dragoneer's passing shocks me. Without Dragoneer, owner of Fur Affinity, I don't know if I would have had the opportunities to be in a community that means the world to me now.

I started working as a concept artist and wanting to get into gaming with my art.

It didn't go well.

It was the furry community that really changed my direction in life and made me feel at home. Like I found where I belonged.

Just earlier today I was talking with people on Discord about how much this community matters to me. How I'm opening up about what I want to do with my art and to not be afraid or to limit myself. How I feel I can really embrace my sexuality and kinks, and not worry about being judged.

I am more excited and motivated than ever!

Remembering how much FA matters to me has me motivated to share more and be even more active there and here, too!

I would not be this comfortable with myself without Fur Affinity, that I am pretty sure of.

Thank you all for the support and community built over these years.

Thank you Dragoneer for making it all possible!

I am sorry for your loss.

It's a pretty rough time in the community. Hope everyone can come together and keep his memory alive.

Don't want to talk shit about the dead. The guy was a scumbag but I understand the services he provided meant allot to many people and that can't be denied. Enjoy the community but don't bleach the past.

It’s always a tough, but a somewhat strange feeling when someone you never met but who was influential to you passes.
It’s not quite the same as when a family member or a friend passes, not necessarily easier but more subdued.

Hope yourself and the furry community are doing well regardless!

It is a weird feeling.
Dragoneer faved some of my art when I first joined FA. That was always really cool.

Honestly, I think FurAffinity is a bad and poorly managed website, but it's pretty much the Twitter of the furry community. Which is why everyone continues to use it. Still, it's sad that the owner passed away like that. May he forever rest in peace...

It's a awkward site missing basic features, but it is still my home!
